2008 THE RINGMASTER clare valley CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The colour is deep purple with red hues and has a bouquet that is complex with violets, spice and black fruit. The palate has good fruit intensity and length with cedar and oak spice balanced with fine long tannins and good acidity. Luckily we were able to get the vast majority of our fruit off the vineyard before the worst of the heat and so the fruit quality was good, protected also by harvesting at night.
The fruit was picked in late March, destemmed and crushed before fermentation in Potter fermenters. The juice was racked and returned once a day for 2 weeks and at sugar dryness the skins were pressed the wine was then transferred to tank and Malolactic fermentation was induced, once the malo was complete the wine was returned to oak were it aged for 18 months.

2008 THE RINGMASTER clare valley SHIRAZ
This wine has intense deep colour and wonderful rich red and black berry fruit aromas. Thankfully we were able to get the vast majority of our fruit off the vineyard before the worst of the heat and so the fruit quality was good, we protected it by harvesting at night and getting it into a cool ferment as soon as possible. The 18 months in fine oak barrels has ensured the fruit is balanced with some soft grainy tannins and spicey oak flavours on the pallet. The wine has a soft, smooth finish and makes a great partner to most meat dishes – especially a juicy steak!
Most are predicting that the Shiraz wines from the 2008 vintage in Clare will be some of the best ever produced, a great way for us to follow up the award-winning 2006 Shiraz. While the alcohols are quite high courtesy of the drought the wines are full flavoured rather than ‘hot’, unlike other regions which got the worst of the heatwave.
